Dankubator DIY Cannabis Drying System
Don't Hate, Dankubate! State of the Art Cannabis Drying System for $500!

The Dankubator is similar to a Cannatrol or other drying systems. Dankubator measures up with the most sophisticated drying system by targeting a consistent VPD. VPD is controlled by managing the temperature and RH of the environment.

Dankubator consists of (exact parts list will be shared at the bottom of this post)
- A modified food-grade storage container
- Electronic dampers
- Thermoelectric Coolers
- Fans
- Atmospheric Pressure Sensor
- Temperature Sensors
- Humidity Sensors
- Rasberry Pi or other controller
What makes Dankubator unique?
- Reverse pressure for lower temperature moisture extraction
- Targets VPD so regardless of ambient temperature or RH we can find the right combo for optimal moisture extraction rates
- Commercial-grade software algorithms running in Python
Dankubator doesn’t just lock in some static temperature or rh. Instead it targets a VPD to control the *rate* of moisture extraction.

It uses a PID algorithm to constantly adjust environmental controls to maintain the optimal vpd and it works in multi environments. pic.twitter.com/wNL85VqjNk
How does it work?
- VPD tells us how fast or slow moisture will be extracted from the bud
- Hotter temps increase the rate of extraction, colder reduces it
- Less humidity increases the rate of extraction, more reduces it
- Too much moisture can cause mold
- Too much heat, cold, or dryness can damage cannabinoids and terpenes
- Danukubator takes all of this into consideration and targets a configurable VPD (default is about .8 kPa) while trying to also stay within optimal temps and humidity for healthy trichomes, terpenes, and flavonoids.
- It uses variable power to coolers and fans, by using PWM technology and a PID algorithm, to adjust power to the proper controls in proportional to the error rate.
- The code is open source and the plans are completely free.

Here’s how it works:

Here is how it works:
- Put cannabis inside the Dankubator and seal it shut
- Choose your target VPD (I have been testing with .71 kPa but might increase it)
- The dankubator constantly monitors the temp, rh, and atmospheric pressure
- If the VPD is too…
